I'm a transplanted Ohioian who has lived in Roanoke for over 20 years, a fundraiser (having chaired annual campaigns & events for many non-profit organizations) and recently-retired volunteer firefighter/shock trauma tech. I travel once/yr to developing countries to help build hospitals & homes, distribute donated medical supplies, & most importantly, to increase cross-cultural understanding. Hobbies include hiking, skiing, home remodeling projects, reading, & music (I sing with the Star City Sounds, a barbershop group).
The Land Trust's annual Conservation Celebration will be held on Sept. 13 on the campus of Hollins University. Governor Tim Kaine will be honored w/ the A. Vic Thomas Environmental Stewardship Award. A delicious dinner (Blue Ridge Catering), regional microbrews, a selection of local wines, music by Easy Pickin's and a fantastic silent auction will be featured.

Sandy - I enjoy your interesting comments in Voices of the Valleys. I look forward to working with you and Betty to plan the party, if that works out for all of us. Deb
