A Roanoke resident since 1955, I worked at GE both as an engineering manager and as an international metal systems engineer, with jobs in South America, Europe and the Far East. We raised three children here, and have seven grandkids -- two already U VA  grads. I got my enginering degree from the U of Cincinnati and an MBA from Virginia Tech, and was able to fool the faculties enough to make all the honoraries. i served a stint as a combat infanryman, and later telephone linesman in France and Germany during WW2. I am a fitness buff, but due to a leg injury, no longer able to run the 5K's or play tennis, however, still working out at the RAC and participating in Senior's Track and Field events. My reading tastes run to non-fiction in politics, science, health and in self-improvement, although I can't brag about any results in the latter. I try to be objective about issues, and to dig into the underlying basics behind the visible emotions. Humor is my passion, so don't be surprised when I come up with a joke related to the serious subject under discussion.
