I have never texted while driving nor have I ever used my cell phone. If I want to take or make a call I pull off the road in a parking lot, etc. This is a ridiculous law because it doesn't go nearly far enough. We have a law that you can be pulled over and fined just for not wearing a seat belt (which only hurts you if you are in an accident), but they won't even stop you if they see you texting. The fines are not enough to deter someone, nor will the penalty even effect your insurance? Stupid, stupid, stupid. Just last week I read another article where a major study showed that driving while on a cell phone is several times more dangerous than driving while drunk. What is it with politicians that they won't do something about these obviously unsafe actions, especially since they affect everyone on the road. I know that people think they have to do this, but your average user is talking about mundane, unnecessary and sometimes, silly things, and yet someone could be seriously hurt or die because of it. As for business people, they did without them since the invention of business travel so why are they so necessary now? If no one is supposed to be doing it then no one will have an advantage. I am really quite fed up with our lawmakers! Whenever I hear one of them say they are doing something because it is best for the general public I just laugh. They pick and choose what they think is best but will cause the least amount of discord with their constituents.
